There’s nothing I enjoy more than eating out. Well, to be fair, there’s nothing I enjoy more than eating in general (probably the reason I’m trying to lose weight). I recently got the opportunity to go to the Around The World Bar, located inside Bierkeller in Manchester’s The Printworks. With the aim of reviewing the new menu, they invited Simon and I in for a round of drinks and some food.

First impressions count, and they weren’t bad! I was quite sceptical to go at first, because I always see people stumbling in and out of Bierkeller most nights of the week, and I didn’t know how that would affect the atmosphere. I was pleasantly surprised! We were instantly greeted by lovely staff, the vibe was cool and very bavarian, so everything was off to a good start.

The selection on the menu is pretty good. It’s nothing too fancy, but gives you enough choice to suit most eaters. There is a selection of food from around the world, but if you’re looking for some ‘pub grub’, that’s what you should benchmark the selection on. There is also over 150 beers to chose from, which seems crazy! How would you whittle down which one to pick?

We ordered some nachos and breaded halloumi for starters. All of the nachos came with some form of meat, but the staff were very accommodating when I asked for it without. Both starters were equally good, came to the table piping hot and definitely did the job. There was a slight hiccup with the nachos arriving late, but they got brought out as soon as it got flagged.

We both ordered burgers for out mains. How adventurous, right? The reason why I ordered a burger is because they actually serve Quorn. Now I know that not much effort has to go into serving a Quorn burger, but sometimes I just want a burger with the same texture as meat. Bean burgers don’t always do the job, so this was a great alternative and it was delicious. Simon ordered the ATW burger, which is apparently their speciality. Whilst I obviously can’t taste it, Simon gave it a thumbs up and said it was nice!

All in all, the food is good. It’s a pretty basic selection, but for the price point it suits well. I think where ATW excels, is with their numerous daily offers. Each night of the week has a different focus, and with that, a different deal on food. It’s the perfect drop off if you’re going to the Odeon in The Printworks, and fancy a bite to eat before your film.
