It’s time to put away your winter wardrobe and bring your summer attire out of hibernation – summer is here! (Well, kind of.) We all love being able to put on a pair of shorts and feel the sun against our skin, but what we might not think about is the changes we need to make to our grooming routine. From men’s perfume to a swanky shower gel, it’s important to update your regieme.

With that in mind, I’ve pulled together a couple of the products that I either switch in my summer routine, or new products I add completely to ensure I’m getting the most out of the weather.

First things first, fragrance!

When the months get warmer, you want to put away your deep winter fragrances and switch them out for light summer scents. Men’s perfume has a huge impact on your mood, and there’s nothing more uplifting than a fresh fragrance. Not to mention the obvious either, but when the weather is warmer, you’re going to sweat more. Wearing a clean scent will help mask any odour, which is great for you and anyone who’s around you.

I love the Cedrat scent from L’Occitane. It’s the perfect transition fragrance that layers a vibrant citrus scent ontop of a woody base. It’s the kind of scent that just smells clean and it’s definitely going to be a staple in my routine this summer.

Secondly, switch out your shower gel

I like switching up my shower gel for the exact same reason why I switch up my fragrance. In summer, you’ll sweat more, which is why I think it’s super important to have a shower gel that leaves you feeling fresh and squeeky clean. Having one with a citrus or peppermint fragrance will give a zingy or cooling sensation on the skin, which feels incredible after a day in the sun. You might also want to invest in a soothing and calming shower gel that’s packed full of aloe vera, for the days when you spend too much time outside.

I’m currently using a mixture of the L’Occitane Cedrat shower gel and the Rituals of Hammam body scrub. I use the shower gel in the morning to wake me up, and the scrub at night to remove any excess oil and sweat. This combination works amazingly for my skin.

Up your SPF game

An SPF is essential all year round, but it’s even more important during summer. It’ll help protect your skin against both UVA and UVB rays, which is essential during the warmer months. Since you’ll most likely be spending more time outside, an SPF will help protect your skin against the sun, pollution and other environmental aggressors, which make it’s incredibly important. Try to find one that is non-comedogenic so that it doesn’t block your pores, and it’ll keep your skin in tip-top condition.

I personally switch between a couple including Kiehls and La Roche-Posay. Depending on how my skin is, I’ll either layer it above my daily moisturiser or replace it entirely. It’s important to try one that works for you, so try a couple out and see how you feel.

The above 3 are some of the things I like to switch out the most during summer, but you should change whatever feels right for you. You might have a heavier moisturiser during winter, which means you’ll need something a bit lighter. You might also consider moving to an oil reducing cleanser depending on how your skin is reacting to the heat.

Don’t be afraid to try something new during summer, it’s the perfect time to give your routine an overhaul. If you have any questions, drop me a message on Instagram and I’ll be sure to get back to you.

Founded by Matthew Malin and Andrew Goetz, this apothecary skincare brand has been on the scene since they first opened their doors in 2004. Even though I’ve known of MALIN+GOETZ for the longest time, I’d never gotten around to trying them out.

That is until recently! Thankfully, I’ve managed to get my hands on a couple of products from the range and give them a whirl. I’ve been trying out the Resurfacing Glycolic Pads and the Vitamin E Face Moisturiser for almost a month now, and they’re definitely worth the hype.

But first, who are MALIN+GOETZ?

As I’ve already mention, the brand was founded by Matthew and Andrew over 10 years ago. They have a brand ethos that focuses on creating simple and effective skincare products that are suitable for even sensitive skin. They combine trusted natural ingredients with some scientific innovation to create formulas that really do work.

I’m a sucker for a brand with some science behind it, so that really speaks to me. As the years have gone on, and the brand has increased in popularity, they’ve began to win more and more awards.

MALIN+GOETZ Resurfacing Glycolic Pads

The name sounds pretty sciency, right? Glycolic Acid is one of those skincare ingredients that is in a lot of products, because it’s super effective and is known to work. The resurfacing glycolic pads from MALIN+GOETZ help to remove dead skin, brighten the complexion and reduce the size of your pores.

Unlike other pads I’ve tried before, it’s recommended that after smoothing a pad across your face, you leave the product to sit on your skin for 20 minutes before washing off. You can use them overnight after you’ve built up a tolerance, but this just highlights how rich this product is.

I found that when I first applied the product, it felt warm on my skin. Not uncomfortable, but I could definitely tell the product was active. After leaving it on for 20 minutes, I rinsed my face and could instantly feel the difference. My skin texture felt less rough, and my face just generally felt softer.

MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Moisturiser

Similarly to the resurfacing glycolic pads, the MALIN+GOETZ Vitamin E Moistursier features even more well-known ingredients. Packed full of Vitamin E, Chamomile and Panthenol, this moisturiser helps to soothe the skin and gently hydrate.

When I first applied it, I wasn’t blown away by the texture. It felt drier than other moisturisers I’ve used, which I guess was a bit of a shock. Using the word dry to describe a wet liquid is probably quite strange, but I mean it doesn’t feel oily and leaves a matte feeling on the skin.

After I got used to the texture, I’m seriously in love. My skin doesn’t look greasy throughout the day, yet I’m left with a natural glow. I can really see how this product would be suitable for people with all skin types, because it’s hydrating but doesn’t leave any residue on your skin. It’s possibly the first moisturiser I’ve ever tried that has this texture, so I’m really impressed.

Is this the skincare range your skin has been craving?

I’m dissapointed in myself for not trying out MALIN+GOETZ sooner. I think it’s a skincare range that can seriously be used by anyone, and they have a philisophy that menas the range is simple.

They recommend a cleanser and moisturiser for your skin type or concern, and then provide targeted treatements for any specific issues. Really simple, and really effective. I’d 100% recommend you try out this range if you’re on the lookout for some new products.

I was sent the products for review. All views and opinions are 100% my own.

I’ve loved Moroccanoil for the longest time. I think the first time I ever used their treatment oil was when I was about 17. This is also around the time I started moving away from my shaved head phase, and straightening my curly hair.

Since I use heat on my hair so often, it’s safe to say it’s a tad damaged. So I’m always looking for products that help to hydrate my hair, without weighing it down or making it difficult to style. Moroccanoil is definitely the brand to give me everything I need. I’ve swtiched out every product in my haircare routine and thought I’d let you know what I’m using and how I’m getting on.

Moroccanoil Shampoo and Conditioner

The first part of any haircare routine has to be a shampoo and conditioner. I’ve been using the repairing verions to help add some extra moisture back into my hair and strenghten it. One thing you’ll notice if you use anything from Moroccanoil is how incredible the products smell. Both the shampoo and conditioner leave my hair feeling clean, but hydrated. Sometimes when I shampoo my hair it can feel a bit ‘squeeky’, which isn’t a good thing. Not with these products though! I do really feel as though they’ve repaired some of the heat damage, so I’m a happy chap!

You can buy the shampoo and conditioner duo here.

Moroccanoil Treatment

Quite possibly the most well-known product from Moroccanoil is their Treatment Oil, and I can understand why. This is the first product I tried from them back in the day, and I seriously don’t know why I ever stopped using it. This oil helps to instantly hydrate, repair and smooth your hair. I use it in damp hair just after I’ve washed it, and it helps to protect whilst I blow dry and straighten. A little goes a long way when you’re using it daily, and I only use half a pump for my whole head. Sometimes I like to add a bit more to dry hair and leave it in as a repairing treatment when my hair is feeling a bit worse for wear.

Moroccanoil Molding Cream

I’d never tried any styling product from Moroccanoil before, so I was excited to give their new Molding Cream a whirl. I typically go for a product that has a natural finish, and high hold. This cream is a bit lighter than what I’d usually use, but it’s seriously one of my favourites for a more natural look. I’ve been using this every day for the last couple of weeks, and I really think I’m going to keep using it. It doesn’t have as much hold as some other products, but that’s not something you’d want if you want your hair to look less styled. It also doesn’t leave my hair looking greasy, but gives it a healthy shine.

Since I’ve switched back to Moroccanoil, my hair is seriously the healthiest it’s ever been. It’s growing incredibly fast, and I find that it’s breaking off less which is always a bonus. My hairdresser even thought it had been a while since I’d been, purely because my hair was a lot longer.

I would say I’m a Moroccanoil convert, but I’ve always loved the brand so I guess I’ve just rekindled that love. If you’re looking for haircare products that are guaranteed to improve the quality of your hair, you really can’t go wrong with Moroccanoil.

I was sent products mentioned in this post for review, but all opinions are 100% honest and my own.

Can you believe it’s already April? This year is seriously flying by!

Each month I’m going to be reviewing the latest TOPPBOX Male Subscription Box, which I couldn’t be happier about. As I’ve mentioned previously, there aren’t that many male grooming subscription boxes out there, and TOPPBOX is quite possibly the best.

If you want to know more about TOPPBOX, make sure you read my post that explains it all here.

I’m going to let you know what I love about each box, and what product I like the least. I thought this way, it’ll keep the content each month fresh and give you a true insight into what I’m trying.

In March’s box I received:

  • Good Day Organics Rough & Tough Hand Balm
  • Skin & Tonic Calm Clean
  • Flint + Flint Lip Hero
  • Pure Skincare London Black Mask
  • Rockbotom Socks

What product did I like the most?

Is it a cop out if I say the socks? Well, let me tell you why. When you get a grooming box regularly, it’s a nice little surprise when you get a lifestyle product. I love the design of these socks, and it definitely added something different to the box.

If I had to pick a skincare product I liked the most, it would have to be the Rough & Tough Hand Balm. We’re just coming out of winter, so my hands have been on the drier side. This product doesn’t have a scent and is incredibly hydrating. It’s more of a treatment, than a product you should use regularly because it’s pretty thick. It’s great to pop on and leave to sock in. And it’s even great to put on your feet!

What product did I like the least?

Sad to say, but I wasn’t too fond of the Flint + Flint Lip Hero. Lip balms are probably the skincare product I own the most of, so my expectations are pretty high. I’m not massively keen on the scent, and I didn’t find it to be too hydrating. If your lips aren’t as dry as mine, I’m sure this would be a wonderful product, but it just wasn’t got me.

The selection of products in this months box is really great. For the monthly cost of £19, you’re really getting a treat. If you want to sign up for yourself, you can find more information on TOPPBOX‘s website.

What’s your favourite subscription box? Let me know in the comments below.

Another brand from America taking the English skincare world by storm!

Jack Black are a small, family owned business, that originates from the heart of Texas. They’re actually considered the number one men’s skincare brand across the world, and if you’ve ever tried their products, you’ll know why.

Their entire range is cruelty-free, which is instantly a massive bonus for many people; and their products have all been formulated to be as effective as possible, using the best ingredients and technologies.

Here are some of my current favourites from Jack Black.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lemon Lip Balm

Can you ever have too much lip balm? Whenever I ask myself this question, the answer is always no. The Jack Black Lip Balm is one of my favourite lip formulas, and the lemon scent is incredible. It’s not overly citrus, and almost reminds me of lemon cake. Besides the smell, the product itself is actually really great. It doesn’t leave my lips looking shiny, and keeps them hydrated. If that isn’t enough, it’s also got SPF25, so your lips are also protected throughout the day.

The Jack Black Intense Therapy Lemon Lip Balm is available here.

Jack Black Face Buff Energising Scrub

Full of active ingredients such as Licorice Extract and Vitamin C, the Jack Black Energising Scrub packs a punch and does exactly what it says on the package. It works to brighten the skin, whilst gently scrubbing away dead skin. I found that it really helped to clear out my pores and hydrate my skin, and definitely helped to smooth out my skin texture. My skin has been a tad crazy lately, so I’ve needed an effective face scrub that didn’t send my oil production into overdrive. This definitely lived up to those expectations.

Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturiser

Firstly, I love the smell of the Jack Black Face Moisturiser. It’s got a clean, earthy scent, that isn’t overpowering or irritating. It’s a really lightweight hydrator and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or looking shiny. I don’t think I’ve ever felt a face moisturiser, with added SPF, that feels as smooth as this one from Jack Black. They’ve really done a good job with this product, and it’s definitely something I can see becoming a staple in my summer skincare routine.

Try out the Jack Black Double Duty Face Moisturiser for yourself here.

If you haven’t explored the range from Jack Black before, you seriously should. Not only are the kincare formulas super effective, they’re also gentle on the skin and the brand is cruelty-free.
