The Well Groomed Man: Essential Tips For The Gent About Town (They’ll Make You Look Good On Instagram Too!)

We all like to look our best, but like anything in life doing so doesn’t come without any effort. In fact, to keep your appearance in tip-top condition is crucial that we up our male grooming game. Luckily, you can find out exactly how to do this in my post below. Read on for more.

Nails & hands

What is the first thing that you greet people with? A handshake, of course, and that means the state of your hands and nails will be noticed by others. That is why you need to keep up with cutting them, something that you can get a range of doodads to help you with.

Picture

Nail care doesn’t have to stop there though, because having soft and supple hands is, contrary to long-held tradition, a good thing for men. After all, they are not only healthier but show the world that you take good care of yourself as well. Something that every self-respecting man needs to do these days.

To that end, using a hand cream or even a barrier cream when you are doing heavy work can be a smart idea. You may also want to opt for a professional manicure if you like. The best bit of which is when they buff your natural nails, so they look as healthy and shiny as possible!

Hair

They say a woman’s hair is her crowning glory, but our locks are pretty essential to us guys as well. Of course, there are a lot of things that you need to get right and all working in conjunction with one another to have fantastic hair, day in and day out.

The first thing you need to get sorted is the cut that you have. Fades are particularly popular at the moment, and we are even seeing a move away from the very harsh cuts to ones with less of a clear transition and more of a natural top.

Additionally, once you have a style you love you do need to invest in the right shampoos and products to keep it looking its best and in place. When it comes to shampoo, remember that less is often more and if you can reduce the amount of time you wash your hair a week, as this will replenish the natural oils. Conditioner is a must too, for every time you wash your hair, not just as an occasional treat, as this will help to make your look much more manageable.

Product wise, it’s crucial that you find the right ones for not only your hairstyle but your hair type as well. After all, very fine hair will be too easily weighed down by waxes, and it can lead your locks to look greasy or less full than they actually are.

Additionally, if you are struggling on the full head of hair front, which many men of various ages do, it may be helpful to consider a hair transplant to rectify this. Luckily, such produces have a high success rate and are easy to organise now.

Beards & Shaving

Once you have your hair grooming sorted you will need to pay attention to your beard, or the removal of it. Of course, whether you decide to grow a beard is entirely up to you, and while they have been very fashionable for the last few years, many people still prefer a clean-shaven look.

However, whether you decide to grow a beard or not, you will still have grooming tasks that need to be performed around your chin. For those with beards, ensuring that it is washed and trimmed regularly is very important. Although there are now trimmer designed especially for beard use which will allow you to control the length to within a half a centimetre growth! Something that means even when you are sporting a beard, you can make sure that it looks as well manicured as possible.

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/B5b9c_LZAbM” frameborder=”0″ allow=”accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture” allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you want to go with a clean shave, however, you will have some more intense work to do. Yes, you can also use an electric razor if you like, but it is usually much more effective to have a wet shave instead. Do remember to steam your face beforehand though to open up the follicle, and shave with the direction of the hair, as this will provide a much more comfortable experience.

Scent

Do you smell? I hope you do, smell good that is! In fact, choosing the right scent be is an essential part of being a well-groomed male. After all, as smell is one of the most reliable memory prompters, there is, having a signature scent can help you not only be more appealing in the moment but also get people to associate you with that smell as well.

The key to finding the right scent for you is to try as many as possible. Don’t make a decision straight away, however, as it is much better if you apply them to the skin and let the scent warm up first, then you will get a much more accurate reading of what it is like. Avoid rubbing your wrists together though, as this can heat it up too quickly and thus distort the scent.

Additionally, for us guys, the temptation to be a little heavy-handed with our man-smell can be intense. I think it is a residual habit from using things like Lynx as we are growing up. However, while it’s important to smell good, less is invariable more when it comes to scent. In fact, if you are spraying it all over your clothes, chest, and anywhere you can find you are probably overdoing it and that will be working against the image of a well-groomed man you are trying to achieve.

Face

Finally, do not, whatever you do forget the skin on your face! After all, it will be with you for life, whether it is in good condition or not. With that in mind, it is well worth moisturising every day, especially around the eyes. Oh, and please, please use sunscreen if you want to remain looking as well groomed as you do now, in the coming years.

Noble Isle Treasure Trove

This stunning collection of bath and shower products is, in my opinion, the perfect Chrsitmas gift. Last year I gave my Dad two shower gels from the range and he absolutely loved them.

This mini collection is only £20 and features 5 miniature bath and shower gels that will be perfect for everyone. There’s a mix of bright, floral and woody scents, so you can be sure that there’ll be something for anyone.

You can get this directly from Noble Isle or in your nearest Harrods.

Dermalogica Daily Glow Duo

We all know how much I love Dermalogica, so I’m pretty confident in giving it as a gift. My sister loves it, and I know that a number of other family members do too.

The Daily Glow Duo from Dermalogica features two of my favourite products – Pre Cleanse Balm and Daily Microfoliant. Both are really effective, and will be wonderful gifts. Plus, it’s only £17.50!

You can get hold of this gift on Dermalogica‘s website, or various other retailers.

Rituals – Ritual of Dao

Everyone loves Rituals! It’s such a great brand and there’s really a selection of products that everyone will love.

I originally got the Ritual of Dao gift set for someone else from World Duty Free, but now I’m really considering keeping it for myself because I love it that much. The set comes with 4 products, including a shower foam, hand wash, body scrub and body cream. The scent is really fresh and is pretty unisex, so would be suitable for anyone. The gift set is also £29.50, so it’s pretty affordable, and looks pretty impressive too.

All Rituals gift sets are available on their website, or if you’re traveling home for Christmas, you can get it in World Duty Free.

There you have it – a quick and easy gift guide. I can guarantee that gifting any of the brands or products I’ve mentioned will make you a successful gift giver. They’ve never failed me, so I’m sure they won’t fail you.

Grooming Christmas List with MMUK MAN and MaleSkin

I’ve worked with both MMUK MAN and MaleSkin for a long time now, and this year, I wanted to create a full gift guide entirely dedicated to products you can find on their sites. If you’re buying a gift for your brother, dad or boyfriend, there’ll definitely be something below for you.

The selection is incredible, and there are products available for all price points and all types of men. Whether it’s someone who’s into the grooming basics and just uses hygiene products, or a fully-fledged skincare addict that would love a new concealer, there’ll definitely be something suitable.

So here it is, my grooming gift guide from MMUK MAN and MaleSkin.

A Molton Brown Gift Set

You really can’t go wrong with Molton Brown, and this little gift set available on MaleSkin is amazing. You get a selection of shower products, that come in a variety of scents. Oh, and it comes in a lovely little wash bag! It’s an affordable gift, but it’s really luxurious and I’m sure that whoever you give it to, will absolutely love it.

This Molton Brown Gift is £24.

A Murdock London Cologne Collection

Knowing what fragrance to get someone is always a challenging task, so why not get them a selection? The Murdock London Fragrance Collection will give the gift of choice, which I think it perfect. Whoever you give it to will be able to decide what scent is best for them, and then decide whether or not to invest in the full version! My personal favourite is Black Tea, but I’ll let you decide what your own is!

The Murdock London Cologne Collection is £40.

A L’Occitane Shower Gel

I’m one of those people that actually LOVES the typical Christmas gifts. Y’know, like socks, deodorants and shower gels. It’s something that a man always needs, and there’s no harm in having a couple more. The L’Occitane Shower Gel is a step up from this, because it’s something every guy will use, but it’s a bit more premium than what most people would buy on a daily basis.

The L’Occitane Shower Gel is £20.

A couple of hair styling products from Jack Black

As long as they have hair, giving some grooming products will always be a good choice. Most men will use a styling product, and these one’s from Jack Black are really great! The formulas are strong, and the products smell fantastic! There’s also a good variety of styling products, so you can basically upgrade what they already use and switch to something new.

You can shop the full Jack Black range here.

A selection of men’s makeup products from MMUK MAN

I think popping a little concealer or brow gel in under someone’s Christmas tree is a cracking idea. If you know a guy, I can guarantee to you that they’ve complained about a spot. (If they haven’t, count yourself lucky.) Whilst gifting makeup to a guy might seem strange, chances are it’s going to be something he’s always wanted but never got around to buying himself.

You can shop the full collection from MMUK MAN here.

A couple of men’s makeup brushes from MMUK MAN

If you want to go the extra mile, and you’ve already gifted some makeup products, why not add some makeup brushes in the mix. It’ll help any guy apply makeup more naturally, so it’s a great addition to someone’s collection.

The MMUK MAN Makeup Brushes are available here.

A body scrub from Anthony

Anthony is SUCH a great brand, so I had to include it in this list. I alwyas buy my sister the Glycolic Facial Cleanser, which she loves. So Anthony isn’t only a good gift for the guy in your life, but even the girl too! A body scrub is something that most men probably won’t have, but I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.

The Anthony Body Scrub is only £28.

A daily face cream from MMUK MAN

MMUK MAN’s skincare is top notch. It comes in simplistic packaging, that would look great on every mans shelf. It also helps that the formulas are great too! A face cream is a good place to start, as it’s probably the most accesible product to guys.

The MMUK MAN Face Cream is available for £35.

Hopefully this post will help you figure out what you’re getting your loved ones for Christmas, and if it hasn’t, it might atleast have given you some inspiration.

MMUK MAN and MaleSkin have an amazing selection of products, so I’d definitely recommend checking them out. And if you have any further questions about what I’ve mentioned in this post, don’t hesitate to leave a comment or message me on Instagram.

5 Alternative Uses for Men’s Eye Makeup

As men’s makeup is becoming more popular, I’ve ended up with a nice little collection of products from MMUK MAN that I’ve been using for a couple of months.

I wanted to push the boundaries, and rather than using the product for just it’s intended purpose, figure out a couple of alternative ways to use them to make them more accessible to all men.

Before I get into it, I wanted to just discuss the products from MMUK MAN, a bit about my thoughts, and how to use them for their intended purpose.

MMUK MAN Clear Mascara

You might have seen on my Instagram, but I’m always complaining about how tiny my eyelashes are. I’ve been using RapidLash to condition them, but the MMUK MAN Clear Mascara gives them a bit of a boost.

It isn’t as intense as going for a coloured one, and basically just styles your eye lashes. Sounds silly, but when you do it, you’ll get it. A clear mascara helps open your eyes, and generally make you look more awake. Think of it like an added tool to trick everyone into thinking you’re more awake after a heavy night. You can thank me later!

MMUK MAN Eye Liner

Receiving the MMUK MAN Eye Liner is actually what sparked this whole blog post. I didn’t know why I’d use it, how I’d use it, and how it would look. So rather than using it how it was intended, I wanted to think of alternative ways.

Although I travelled to Orlando shortly after getting this product, and I was actually quite surprised by how many guys were wearing eye liner! It’s legit a thing, and I’m fully on board with it.

MMUK MAN Brow Shadow

I started using eyebrow products when I was in university. I shaved off a part of my eyebrow, and needed to cover it up. (Yes, I shaved off my OWN eyebrow – don’t ask.) So I 100% understand why you’d use an eyebrown pencil.

The one I’ve been using for MMUK MAN looks so natural when applied, and has a creamy texture so it blends into your natural eyebrows. It’s great.

MMUK MAN Beard and Brow Mascara

This product was completely new to me, and something I’ve always wanted. As you can see in some of the tips below, a couple of ‘typical’ men’s makeup products can be used in alternative ways, but MMUK MAN have taken the thought out of this.

Their Beard and Brow Mascara is a multi-purpose product that helps to define and shape your brows and facial hair. Because it’s got a colour in, it’s also great at covering up any of those rogue grey hairs you might get.

Without further ado, here are 5 alternative ways to use men’s eye makeup

  1. Use an eye liner to fill in your beard. If you’re like me and you’re cursed with a patchy beard, this tips for you. Grab an eye liner in the same colour as your facial hair, an draw little hairs in between the patches. It’ll make your beard appear fuller, which I’m all about.
  2. Use clear mascara to smooth our your eyebrows. I actually use a seperate gel to do this, but if you’re looking for one product, grab a clear mascara and run it through your eyebrows. It’ll work in the same way you’d use a styling product for your hair, helping you make your eyebrows to look less crazy and more tame..
  3. Use clear mascara to tame fly aways. If you’re anything like me, you’ll always have a couple of rogue strands of hair that just won’t stay in the style. Grab a clear mascara, and run a small amount over any stray hairs to help them fall back into place.
  4. Use a brow filler to fill in your hairline. I don’t suffer from this, but I know thinning hair is an issue for a lot of guys. Use a brow filler to darken your hairline, making it look fuller. Noone will be able to tell your hair is thinning!
  5. Use an eye liner to darken your lashes. Probably a tip that’s a little bit out there, but it works. Using an eye liner, carefully run it along your lashes. Be incredibly careful so you don’t poke your eye out, but I’ve used this tip a couple of times and it works.

If you haven’t already, take the leap and add some men’s makeup to your everday routine. I always reach for MMUK MAN, because I’m confident that the formulas will work and they’ve never let me down.

Black Leopard Skincare Launches in the UK

I always love trying any skincare products that come from other countries. I find that they typically have different philisophies, and offer a unique approach to skincare. Which is pretty exciting.

Some of my favourite skincare brands are from the US, so I’ve always been intrigued by products from the rest of the world. Australian skincare brand, Black Leopard, has recently just lauched in the UK and here are my thoughts.

Firstly, a bit more about Black Leopard Skincare

As I’ve mentioned, Black Leopard is an Australian skincare brand that has just launched here in England. The brand is built with the aim of catering for many different skincare needs, and has been tried and tested by many men.

The ingredients across the range have been selected not just because of their effectivess, but because they’re not harmful to the skin or the environment – which I’m all about. My skin is quite sensitive, so products that have low irritation are always favourable.

I’m always a bit sceptical of product ranges made for men, because they usually focus on one thing – that men’s skin is thicker. This generally encourages brands to create astringent products, that regulate oil production, but not Black Leopard. The formulas are designed to hydrate and calm all male skin types, not just oily. So we’re off to a good start.

Black Leopard Skincare Products

I’ve tried a couple of products from the range, mainly skincare, but there’s a cheeky little haircare product in there too.

Black Leopard Moisturiser

I’ve started with the moisturiser because it’s the first thing I try from any range. You can usually make out a lot about a range from their face cream, so my first impressions of Black Leopard all relied on this.

The first thing I noticed was the packaging. It feels really high quality and really does look the part. The product itself is surprisingly lightweight. It applies like a cream, but then melts away like butter. The moisturiser doesn’t leave the skin feeling sticky, and it’s a pretty decent cream.

Did it hydrate? Yes. Was I blown away by the formula? No.

Black Leopard Face Scrub

I’m a sucker for a good face scrub. Having dry skin means it needs a bit of TLC from time to time. This product from Black Leopard definitely does the trick.

It’s packed full of ingredients that I adore, such as glycolic acid, aloe vera and vitamin E. All of them help to hydrate and soothe the skin. The exfoliating part of the scrub is due to black rice, which is natural and effective. My favourite exfoliator uses rice powder, so I’m a fan. This product is generally pretty good, and I don’t really have anything negative to say about it.

Black Leopard 2-in-1 Shave Gel Cleanser

Anything 2-in-1 has a place in my heart. I’m not a massive fan of shaving products, so having a cleanser that does both is a step in the right direction for me.

Unfortunately, this product didn’t hit the mark. Don’t get me wrong, it’s probably great for someone with oily skin. But it has tea tree oil and witch hazel in, which don’t react too well with my skin type. This will be going straight to my boyfriend, who I’m sure will be a fan.

Black Leopard Eye Cream

The Black Leopard Eye Cream packs a punch. It’s a rich formula and a little goes a long way. It has a very similar texture to the face cream, except it’s a little thicker. It also feels smoother on the skin, which is great for under your eyes.

It’s a pretty solid formula, and if I wasn’t so useless when it comes to applying eye creams, I’d probably make this a staple in my routine.

Black Leopard Hair Styling Cream

The first thing you’ll notice about this product is it’s colour – it’s bright purple!

The cream itself is more of a fibre in my opinion. It has a slighty stickyness too it, which I’m not made about, but it’s not really a ‘cream’. That being said, it has similar effects as a cream styling product, but it has slightly more hold.

First impressions are everything, and I’m definitely intrigued by the range from Black Leopard. All in all, it’s a pretty solid range. All of the formulas feel great, and whilst some of them might not work for me, I know they’ll work for someone else.

Black Leopard Skincare is currently available on Amazon.

If you love brands like Bulldog, Black Leopard is a step up from them. If you’ve tried anything from Black Leopard before, I’d love to know your thoughts.
